Frequently asked questions

  • An educational psychologist helps children and adolescents understand and overcome challenges related to learning, development, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing. They use psychological assessments, counselling, and evidence-based interventions to support academic success and healthy development.

Educational psychologists are registered professionals regulated by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and must follow strict ethical and professional standards when providing psychological services.

  • A child may benefit from seeing an educational psychologist if they are:

    • Struggling academically despite effort

    • Showing signs of learning difficulties

    • Experiencing behavioural or emotional challenges at school

    • Having difficulty concentrating or staying organised

    • Struggling with anxiety related to school or exams

    • Experiencing social or peer difficulties

Early support can help identify challenges and provide strategies to support a child’s development and learning.

  • While I am not contracted with all medical aids and do not submit claims on behalf of clients, I do provide invoices upon request, which are suitable for submission to your medical aid provider. If you need a diagnostic code (DSM-5 or ICD-10), I can include it and discuss it with you.

Please note that it’s the responsibility of the client or their legal guardian to submit invoices directly to the medical aid for reimbursement. If a claim is rejected or only partially paid, the full payment will remain the responsibility of the client or their guardian.

Keep in mind that medical aid processing times and outcomes are beyond my control, but I am happy to assist with any information you may need to help with the process.
